Hotel Nia
You can spot it from the freeway and once you enter valet, you have the immediate sense that you’re home. The interior design will leave you in awe while you register exactly where you are, this is Menlo Park. Located about 45-minutes from San Francisco, Menlo Park is also known as Silicon Valley and right next door to Hotel Nia is Facebook’s headquarters. Yep, you’re surrounded by the biggest tech companies but once you step inside your room, you’ll forget all that and be mesmerized by how beautiful your home away from home is.
Hotel Nia is an Autograph Collection Hotel, prided on its luxurious look and feel, along with its quality customer service. Upon checking in, you’re immediately offered a glass of champagne or a bottle of water, if you’re not big on the bubbles. After taking the elevator to your floor, you’ll notice that you can’t hear a peep while walking down the hallway to your door. I love that the walls aren’t thin and that each door has an accompanying “do not disturb” signs. You simply turn on the switch from inside your room to let staff know not to disturb you. A little chicer than an over the doorknob sign for sure.
The Room
KSOLE and I stayed in junior suite/one-bedroom suite, which was beyond spacious with a separate living room, balcony, and one and a half bathroom. Equipped with two smart TV’s, plenty of places to sit and host guests, and floor to ceiling windows, this room was beautiful. The downside though? It did not have any decent natural lighting so unfortunately, we were unable to really capture the room. You can click here for the hotel’s photos of the room, but their gallery also doesn’t do the room justice. I would highly suggest booking this room if you plan on staying as you’ll really love the space.
Our friends stayed in a corner king room, which had amazing natural lighting seeping through all day, which I took this Instagram photo at. Both rooms had comfortable beds and overall great amenities, but I just wish our suite had better lighting.
The Food
Alright, we all know how much I love room service and dining should always be up to par with the rest of the hotel right? Unfortunately, this is where I was most disappointed about. Being a luxury hotel, I expected the food to be just as good as the decor. However, a lot of the options were either very bland or too big in portion. The breakfast we had in-room was ok. Nothing to truly rave about and for having Verve on-site, the coffee was pretty terrible.
The lunch and dinner menu are the same, which leaves you with little options to choose from throughout the day. While the steak and prime rib were amazing, they are best suited for sharing between two people. They should at least tell people that when ordering. The presentation on some of the dishes could’ve been better too.
But, I am hopeful as they are working on their dining program and I expect to see some positive changes in the next couple of months. We spoke with someone on the team who confirmed that there will be changes happening with the food and beverage program. Hopefully the next time we come back, it’ll be better.
The Property
For a luxury property, I found it surprising that they did not have a spa or spa partner. I love indulging in spa services on my getaway so I was sad to hear they don’t have one. However, the pool and outdoor activities offered kept us entertained throughout the weekend. It truly is a great place for families, as there’s enough for kids to do, and for friends who are in need of a quick refresh.
Menlo Park isn’t too far from neighboring cities like Redwood and Palo Alto, in which we explored during an afternoon. We found a few great thrift stores, record shops, and cute coffee shops. Certainly are things to do for a weekend with friends on and off the property, which is a plus.
Note: valet is $35/day with in and out options.
Overall, we had a great stay and it was wonderful to reunite with our NYC and Chicago friends for the weekend.
Thank you Hotel Nia for hosting us!
