Nurse Practitioner: Jenn
1. Kicking it off with an introduction - who are you, what do you do, and how can people connect/find you?
Hi! I'm Jennifer also known as Jenn or JenJen!
I am a board-certified nurse practitioner specializing in aesthetics and cosmetic medicine in Los Angeles (If you need Botox/fillers/lasers— I’m your girl!)
You can connect with me on Instagram: @jordonio and @jordonio.np
2. Be honest, how was your journey to becoming an NP? What was one thing you wish you knew before starting?
My journey to my NP was a long one, but not a bad one ☺️!
It all started in 2009 when I became a registered nurse!
2009: ADN (associates degree in nursing)
2010: BSN (bachelors of science in nursing at UW (go huskies!)
2010-2016: work, eat, travel, sleep, repeat
2018: I received my MSN, FNP (masters of science in nursing with a certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner)
Something I wish I knew before starting Grad school / NP school:
I wish someone told me that it was going to be a little difficult finding the job that I wanted — right off the bat. I had trepidations about the field that I was getting into because I had little experience in it. Honestly... who you know (connections) & experience is usually how you get positions these days.
3. What is your favorite thing about the work you do?
My favorite part of my work is seeing the end result and how happy I make people feel. Seeing the end result is satisfying for me because the work I do is like an art.
4. How do you balance work with self-care and time for yourself?
My work stays at work... once I’m done I do whatever I want lol. I work out, bake, make arts and crafts & chill on most days.
5. What are a few ways you decompress after a long day?
After a long day, I like to work out, hang out with my loves, have a nice glass of pinot noir, or take an evening walk.
6. If you could go back in time, what age would you relive and why?
I would relive between 2012 and 2017 😂 I think I was about 27-32 years old. I was very free-spirited, I traveled the world during that time, & made meaningful friendships with people that I am still friends with today.
7. How do you stay inspired and motivated?
I like to connect with people who are like-minded and who are able to help me gain knowledge about whatever it is I am interested in. I have grasped the belief to always use my resources. There is always going to be someone out there who can help you learn something. I try to reciprocate this concept as well!
I have never followed the crowd or what’s popular. I have always done my own thing in my own ways. I am surrounded by a small, tight-knit circle of friends/people that I trust & confide in. We all motivate each other to do better, we back each other up through hard times, & are incredibly honest with each other.
That’s how I stay inspired & motivated.
8. Do you think social media has helped you in your career? Why or why not?
I think social media has somewhat helped me in my career. I show my work on social media and I think that catches people’s interest. I have made many connections through Instagram and have had people come in to see me because of the platform.
9. What was one mistake you made that you've grown/learned from?
Throughout my life, I have made multiple mistakes that I have learned from but putting energy in things that do not matter ... is one that always resonates with me.
10. What's your advice to someone who is interested in pursuing your field?
Never stop trying!
Try shadowing someone in the field so you know what the field entails
Make some connections
It is definitely an art— what you do to people is your work & they are like a walking advertisement
You cannot please everyone
Not everyone is going to like you & that’s okay
